During an abortion, a child is dismembered, decapitated, and disemboweled, or starved and suffocated. This disgusting “procedure” takes place 90 times every day in Michigan while, in total, about 2,300 Americans lose their lives to abortion every single day.

How many abortions occur in the US?

  • 21% of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion. [1]

  • In 2020, 930,160 abortions were performed, up 8% from 862,320 in 2017. [1]

  • Since Roe v. Wade (1973), over 63 million abortions have occurred. [2]

Who gets abortions?

  • Each year, 1.4% of women aged 15-44 have an abortion. [1]

  • About 45% of pregnancies are unplanned each year. [3]

  • 1 in 4 women will have an abortion by age 45. [4]

  • Women aged 20-29 account for 57% of all abortions. [4]

  • 51% of women who have abortions had used a contraceptive method in the month they got pregnant, most commonly condoms (24%) or a hormonal method (13%). [4]

    • 59% have at least one child.

    • 55% are unmarried and not cohabiting.

    • 49% have incomes below 100% of the federal poverty level.

    • 30% identify as Protestant and 24% identify as Catholics.

Why do women get abortions?

  • 74% say that having a baby would interfere with work, school, or the ability to care for dependents. [6]

  • 73% say they cannot afford a child. [6]

  • 48% say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner. [6]

  • Less than 0.5% percent of women who have abortions cite rape as the primary reason for the abortion. [6]

  • Less than 0.5% of women who have an abortion say they became pregnant as a result of incest. [6]

When do abortions occur?

  • 93% of abortions occur in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy.7

  • 6% of abortions occur between 14-20 weeks gestation. 7

  • 1% of abortions occur after 20 weeks of pregnancy. 7
